Harmonic Resonance
Clashing keys trigger user fatigue. Harmonic mixing is mandatory for high-retention sequencing.
When curating tracks, ensuring that adjacent tracks are musically compatible is often overlooked in favor of genre or BPM matching. Harmonic mixing relies on the musical key of the track.
The Camelot System
The Camelot wheel is a simplified visual representation of the circle of fifths, designed specifically for DJs. Keys are assigned a number from 1 to 12, and a letter (A for Minor, B for Major).
- Compatible Mix: Same number and letter (e.g., 8A to 8A).
- Adjacent Mix: Move one number up or down (e.g., 8A to 7A or 9A).
- Relative Mix: Change letter, keep number (e.g., 8A to 8B).
